Polyurethane Molding

What is urethane casting process?

The casting type used for the rapid prototyping of components, where the production material does not fit for the prototyping process. This can also be called as the polyurethane molding. Urethane has been chosen for the prototyping process, when the material used for the production has the similar properties. The urethane is cost effective and this can be matched with the mechanical properties of the materials used for production. This process of casting will reproduce the small details in the materials. The polyurethane molding is so flexible and therefore it prevents the risks involved in molding process. This casting will replicate the original and forms the duplicate form of the prototype.

Applications of polyurethane castings

The urethane casting in cost effective and hence it is used in the RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanizing) for filling the product and the prototype. Nowadays, manufacturers produce effective urethane prototypes for several different purposes like samples, focus group sand for sales and marketing. Urethane castings are really good for the functional testing and it match the properties like deformation, load, impact and other mechanical properties. The process of urethane casting involves the steps such as designing the pattern, tool used and the parts involved in molding. First you need to complete the master pattern to begin with the casting process.

Moldings and patterns

The very common type of pattern used is the SLA pattern, which involves the photopolymer resin with the UV lased for the production of the three dimensional components. After completing the master plan, then it is suspended in a frame with a gate. Now the silicon is filled and it is left some time to cure naturally. Once the thing is completely dried small cuts are made to separate the plan or pattern form the mold. Now the silicon mold remains separately and thus the urethane is poured over the silicon mold to make it even harder.

Finishing of the samples

Finally the urethane casting is removed from the silicon mold and the left out silicon mold can be reused. Therefore the silicon molds are flexible and they can produce other 20 molds to use after that. If needed, the colors can be added for the urethane molding, by adding the appropriate dyes. You can also use the textures in the patterns for a finest output. The cast urethanes or polyurethanes are used for the low productive process for the prototyping process. This gives the appropriate finishing and gives completeness to the product. You can produce from 1 to 100 samples with polyurethanes casting mold and it does not fit for the mass production.

So, you can find several companies offers the services on urethane casting and molding and it is highly suitable for small and medium scale marketing companies.
